Q1 Does INTAC use machine translation?

We believe that translation is not a mechanical act, but a creative process demanding advanced language skills and cultural knowledge. At INTAC, translation is handled by native speakers with outstanding language skills and the cultural sensitivity necessary for successfully transposing information from one language to another. We do not use machine translation tools. However, we make use of computer-aided translation (CAT) tools to lessen the repetitive element in the translator's work.
Q2 How does INTAC choose translators?
INTAC only uses native-speaking translators.
All our translators have passed a translation test specific to their area of expertise
Our translators are chosen based on their source and target language capability, writing skills, experience and knowledge of specific fields. Our testing process is rigorous - less than 10% of those qualified individuals taking our translation test are accepted.
Q3 Who is the primary contact?
The primary contact is with one of our Coordinators. Each Coordinator has a portfolio of regular clients and works to meet each client's needs and ensure their satisfaction over the course of the project. The Coordinator liaises with the Project Manager, who selects the appropriate translator and checks the spelling, grammar and coherence of the translation. The Coordinator ensures that the translation is delivered on time, and also deals with any additions or changes requested by the client.
Q4 What is the quality assurance process?
The quality of the finished product is ensured by careful review and checking of the source product, thorough research, selection of the best translator for the project, and systemized checking of the translation by a native speaker. Not only the accuracy of the translation, but also coherence and quality, style and terminological consistency are thoroughly reviewed.
Q5 Can we get status reports?
It is important that the client be aware of the status of ongoing projects, particularly those that are complex or involve a large volume of translation. INTAC offers status meetings, regular reports, and telephone updates according to your needs. Large projects can also be submitted with rolling deadlines, allowing you to check the translation as it is produced.
Q6 How does INTAC handle changes?
Once our Coordinator is notified of any changes or additions to the source text, the Project Manager will determine the need for additional translation or rewriting. We then effect changes speedily and accurately, to avoid impacting the project schedule.
